Rector's ramblings - october 2005

While we have enjoyed on of the best September weather periods in years our nation’s Gulf Coast has had the worst weather imaginable. The Service League is devoting the proceeds from the October 22nd silent and live auction to the needs of those in the affected area.

In offering prayers for those who have lost relatives, homes, and livelihoods, pray that in the new life they must now begin, they may also see life itself anew and may build on the blessings that come from those God has inspired to help.

It might also be wise to imagine our lives suddenly changed and without any of the basics we take for granted each day. Then hear the words of our Lord that he will never leave us no matter what. No disaster can take Him away. Those who have lost all are discovering this anew. Our prayers and support can help them heal in the days ahead.

On November 6th our celebration of the Sunday of All Saints will be enriched by the visitation of our Suffragan Bishop David Bena. He has worshipped with us but never officially visited. This means that we will be able to officially present to him those 16 years of age and older desiring to be confirmed by a bishop and those who have been confirmed by a bishop in other churches desiring to be received into the Episcopal Church. I am seeing an understanding of how much we might stretch “16” for those shy of the exact date. Please let me know of young people interested who are not quite 16 yet. Preparation classes for young people and adults will be announced soon.

All our programs are under way as well as some new ones coming soon. I hope you will be able to participate in our parish family life beyond Sunday morning. Watch for the announcements and join in!
