Rector's ramblings - FEBRUARY 2004

We have begun to take your pictures for a parish directory. In the past we have done this twice in connection with a commercial company whose interest was in selling you copies of your pictures. The church saw none of that money but we did get free copies of the booklet when it finally came out. This time we are doing the pictures ourselves thanks to the generosity of David Painter, our photographer. He is working with Marta Pekar and Virginia McMorris as the committee to produce the Directory. The Service League has agreed to underwrite the costs of production. Sign up sheets are in the narthex of the church and set to take place after the 8 am service and continue through the coffee hour time. We are using the stage in the parish house for the pictures. With one day of pictures taken we have learned that there is usually time for more than those scheduled so if you feel you are having a good hair day, check with them on the stage and have your picture taken. I am so pleased to have this project under way and done "in house."

The Epiphany season is upon us now and Lent begins in a few weeks. There will be another delightful Valentine Brunch put on by the Service League on February 22nd. Another edition of our annual Pizza Party and Variety Show is set for February 27th for all ages beginning at 5 pm. We have moved the party away from the school holiday week this year in response to those who are traveling that week. This puts the party in Lent but there is nothing wrong with having fun in Lent and this is a really fun night for the parish every year. For these events if you reserve a place, don't forget to attend.

Lent begins on February 25th. Services that day are 6:45 am, 10 am, 12:10 pm and the Choral Eucharist at 7 pm. More on this next month.

January and February can be difficult months for many. Its cold and often dreary and the bills from December arrive. What were we thinking? Well, that was the season of love and generosity and our Lord is always pleased when we give of ourselves. Now in Epiphany we look to a star and ask god to enlighten us and guide us once again to Jesus. There is no issue or situation facing us that he cannot lift and give light to. He knows us and wants us to trust in Him and be assured that he cares and loves us always.

So make sure you are in church and the children in church school to celebrate our season of light and enlightenment in Christ.
